LOVE, LIFE AND HOPE
I have a boy
a long lean beautiful boy
perched on the cusp of manhood
his limbs all gangly and thin
elegant fingers made for music
although
used for signing words in the air
each nail picked over and over
fingers moving
always moving
his face is perfection
marred only by teenage pimples
his eyes twinkling
large open friendly smiles
because of the music
because of the music
the boy who grips my heart
with an oh so gentle squeeze
a tug from afar
just a look to pull me in
my sweet child
my heart overflows with love
my throat tightens with threat of tears
eyes glisten
I swallow and hold
myself in check
I watch him sleep
My child to be a man
His skin all warm
So innocent and naive
dreaming music
dreaming music
I have given him life
He has walked me through
many emotions
I have given him life and music
he has given me acceptance
a deep abiding love
hope for the future
