Heartsore

I am finding it very hard to write for Hopeful Parents this month. I just don't have it in me to write a post that comes across as positive and hopeful.

Last week a very dear friend of mine was involved in a bad car accident. Unfortunately the car rolled and for some unknown reason the airbag in front of her did not activate.

As of today she still lies in ICU, heavily sedated with traumatic injuries.

I am devastated.

Why am I telling you this? Well, she is a mum just like you and me. She is a mum who has a child with special needs. We met twelve years ago when our children were two years old and we have shared so much over the years.

She is my friend.

Why is it that a tragedy is always a wake up call? A reminder that we don't know what tomorrow brings. A kick up the butt so that we make plans for the future of our  vulnerable family members who need us to care for them.

Hug your kids and make that plan.... because you never know what is waiting around the next corner.

  3. I am sorry to hear about the accident. I wish everyone affected by it the strength to get through it and the most hopeful spirits for friend during her recovery.

I recently met someone who was involved in a tragic car accident that sounds similar to the story you told. It took a few months but he fully recovered although it's not without bumps/bruises/scares/emotions. It's devastating but not impossible and the one thing he has said about it all, the human body is an amazing machine but the mind is most powerful.

  4. Thinking of you. By the way, don't feel like you have to be all Pollyanna on here. If anyone understands that life is not a bowl of cherries or rainbows all the time, we do. Know that I am thinking of you and praying for you and your friend. Doctors are amazing and the human body is as well. Please keep us posted.

  5. I am so very sorry to read this here ((hugs)) and I think that one of the hardest things as a special needs parent is to make a plan in case anything should happen to us, as for many of us it's impossible to imagine that anyone else will be able to take care of our child (ren) xx

  6. Thank you for your comments. My friend has finally come off the ventilator, although it is going to be a very long haul.... and to be honest, at this stage we don't know the outcome. Only time will tell.
