it's going to be a long one

Monday, June 8, 2009 at 9:03AM In a few short hours I will be on a plane with Calvin and Fudge, trapped in a very confined space with two hyper, scared and anxious little boys. They have never been to an airport, never been on a plane and have yet to meet half of the family that we are going west to visit. It will be a long flight. To be honest with you I am feeling overwhelmed at the thought of it.
So how do I travel all the way across the country without going crazy? Well I have a few tricks up my sleeve, I hope they work
- Each child has a small bag with a zipper to pack full of little toys they would like to bring
- They can each bring a stuffie, they are both still comforted by stuffies
- I have bags of treats to dispense each hour of our journey. They start with a big bag that has books, paper and new markers in it. Then there are smaller bags for each hour with games, lego type toys, invisible pen books and so on.
- We went to library and choose some comic books and such to bring
- I have a portable DVD player with a new movie
- I will bring my ipod with some music on it to calm a disregulated kid
- I have a complete change of clothes in their carry on in case of disaster.
- I have anti-nausea medicine.
- They each have a bag of snacks, nothing to sweet but things they do not often get home. Nothing like a food dye to keep a kid happy.
- I have snickers bars for me!
- When we get off the plane and their doting grandparents are there to meet us I will make sure that the first place we go is a licensed restaurant because I will need a glass of wine.
Please let me apologise now if you are sitting near us, we will be noisy. I was thinking about handing out earplugs as I went to our seats but I think that might send the wrong message.
All that being said I am really looking forward to two weeks on the west coast, I miss the ocean.

Hope your flight went well!! Traveling is stressful. Traveling with kids is stressful. Traveling with kids like ours is stressful. The nice thing about travel though, is when it's done, it's done. Have a fun trip!
I hope it went well! Traveling is rough! I always feel so frazzled when I fly with the kids. The first time KayTar ever flew it was a disaster, but we found our groove the next time.
