Our kids have all kinds of special needs, mild to severe. Some of us grieve the loss of our children. We do the very best we can, which often takes a toll on us. We come here to share our feelings with other parents who understand. We're searching for every parent of a child with special needs. Welcome!

An IEP Gone Right! There is Hope!

They say that people have far more interest in bad news than good news. Hence tabloids, police blotters, the murders and fires they showcase on the evening news.

But I have good news, and if it bores you, then so be it.

There aren't very many days that I get deliriously happy about my son's situation. In fact, I've been nursing a pretty awful state of mind since June when he was expelled from his second, therapeutic school due to being a danger to himself and others. Second school...he's five.

We had our IEP meeting yesterday. Everybody -- the whole room -- was in sync with my son's issues and his needs. We didn't have to negotiate for anything -- and the services and support they recommended for him exceeded my expectations!

I walked out of that meeting with an enormous grin on my face, hugging every single person in the room. I can't wipe the silly thing off even now.

Joy! Joy! Joy!

I was prepared for an IEP horror story, since I've heard so many. I walked out of a fairy tale.

Here's to happily every after...

Congratulations! They do exist! They seem rare, but I have found that the more prepared and knowledgeable you are about how I. E. P.s work the more likely you are to have a positive out come.
I hope that you share another post once the new I.E.P. is in place.

I certainly will post again once we have everything in writing as to the details, and how we got the services. Though as my husband said, my son is his own best salesman.

Yahoo! I know how you feel. When my daughter was blowing out of the first school she attended after we adopted her, and the school was doing nothing they said they would...and then we changed schools and they actually FOLLOWED THROUGH so that she and other kids would be SAFE each day??? I mean, it is like a huge weight gets lifted off your shoulders and you feel like dancing down the street singing like life is a fricken musical. It feels THAT good, doesn't it? I am so happy for you and your son!

Good for you!!

You've won half the battle. Just be sure they're following through with everything (or almost everything...you be the judge) they promised yesterday. :)
